Private Health Insurance, R.I.P.

I think we can all agree that, should the health insurance reforms that Obama will sign into law this year accomplish what these two commentators believe will happen, it would be a good thing both for consumers and health providers alike.

And please don't give me the argument that at least private insurers pay providers a reasonable amount. They have doctors and hospitals by the balls, and everyone knows it. Saying it's the lesser of two evils is a cop-out. It can be better, and with this legislation, it will be.

The fee-for-service model is not scalable, doesn't work in a population that does not take prevention seriously, and burdens the system with poor people who can't afford insurance and opt for egregiously expensive emergency room visits for routine health care issues.
