Party First, Always

Steve Benen points out that since the election of Obama, "GOP leaders, the Cheneys, Limbaugh, and conservative activists" have taken sides against Gen. Petraeus, Sec'y Gates, Colin Powell, Adm. Mullen, Adm. Blair and Gen. Jones on the effectiveness of Gitmo, torture, and civilian trials for terror suspects. Why? Well, because the military brass support the commander-in-chief, who is a Muslim Commie born in Kenya (and who has dark skin and likes basketball over golf).

Wasn't it just a short year or so ago when David Petraus enjoyed something akin to papal infallibility on all things military? As Andrew notes:

I fear that the Cheneyites are either cynically and recklessly playing the politics of fear or desperately trying to rescue their reputations from the judgment of history. That's too late, guys. Your crimes and errors are indelibly written into this country's history.

Amen.
