The 51-year-old head of a state laboratory in North Carolina refused to lower the flag at his facility in honor of the late Jesse Helms. He was given the choice to lower the flag or retire effective immediately. After pleading with his boss to be allowed to stay, he retired from his $65,000 a year job.
I think the state should fly the flag at half-staff when he dies.
